Hello all! My name is Jerid P. Woods Sr. and I welcome you to my blog and also to my learning experience. I'm from Natchez, Ms. and I am currently in my final semester of the MAT program here at Southern Miss. I have a bachelor's degree in English that I'm hoping to adding this degree to, and I'm looking forward to possibly starting a doctoral program in the fall.
The entire program consisted of purely online classes so I have gained a pretty decent understanding of what an online class looks like, at least one at Southern Miss.
I currently work at Hattiesburg High School in the Hattiesburg Public School District and I love it. I teach English I and English I Honors both of which have truly been an experience for me. Throughout both the program and my first year of teaching I gained a decent understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF through assignments that I had for my program and assignments that I assigned to my students. My teaching philosophy shows that I'm always looking to better understand these programs and add more to my repertoire, because I am a firm believer in education looking like contemporary America, and contemporary America is all about one thing right now: technology.
Ive done a lot of work with blogs, podcasts, and video clips, as I have operated two blogs in the past. One was a hip-hop blog and the other is just a normal blog where i post my simple thoughts. Ive integrated my knowledge of these platforms in my classroom on numerous occasions. I've used them as teaching tools and motivational tools to get my students to create there own spaces in this increasingly technological world.
